The bronze is signed "Guiraud-Riviere" and "Etling Paris".
(Etling was the publisher of many of the best sculptors of the Art Deco period.)
"The Comet" is an iconographic c. 1925 Art Deco sculpture. Daring even for its day, it was probably only
produced in a very small edition, and rarely appears on the market.
This work has been depicted in numerous references on Art Deco including Catley's Art Deco and Other Figures, Duncan's Encyclopedia of Art Deco and Gallagher's Christie's Art Deco.

Maurice Guiraud-Riviere, born 1881 in Toulouse France. studied sculpture at the Paris Ecole des Beaux-Arts and exhibited at the Salon des Artistes and the Salon des Humouristes during the 1920s and 30s.
His subjects: dancers, athletes and horses are usually theatrical and captured in motion.
