Sam Huber
“Provincetown Boatyard”, ca. 1935, oil on canvas, 18” x 30”,
signed lower left. In a
period hand-carved custom frame initialed by the maker. Huber studied at the City
College of New York and in the 1930s at the Art Students League with George
Grosz, William von Schlegell, and Robert Brackman.. During the 1930s and early 1940s he painted in both
Provincetown and Woodstock, as well as in Mexico. However, around 1947 he was forced to abandon his career as
an artist due to Parkinson’s disease.
He died in California in 1973.
